The Newsrooms Knew... Proudly Publishing a Whole New Chapter

There was a time when advertising looked very different.

Long before websites, social media, smartphones, or online communities, many independent providers found clients through the classified ads tucked into the back pages of local newspapers.

I remember walking into those newspaper offices.

You'd step through the front doors, approach the reception desk, and quietly ask to place an advertisement. There wasn't a flashy website or an online dashboard. There was simply a conversation, a payment, and the knowledge that your tiny block of text would soon become part of tomorrow's paper.

It all felt incredibly discreet.

There was an unspoken understanding in those moments. The people behind the counter knew what section you were advertising in. You knew they knew. Yet everyone simply treated it as another advertisement to prepare for publication.

Looking back, there was something strangely comforting about that.

Not because anyone was celebrating the work, but because behind every advertisement was another person simply trying to earn a living. The newsroom wasn't there to judge. It was there to publish.

Those classified pages became part of the rhythm of the community.

Today, everything has changed.

Advertising has become digital.

Communities have moved online.

Independent professionals now build websites, publish blogs, create content, manage memberships, and market themselves in ways that would have seemed impossible just a couple of decades ago.

We've gained incredible opportunities.

We've also learned that strong communities don't just happen—they're built.

One conversation.

One member.

One story.

One connection at a time.

When I think about Candy Kisses, I often find myself remembering those newspaper offices.

Not because I want to go backwards.

Because I believe something important existed there.

There was a place where people came to publish.

A place where information was organized.

A place where communities discovered one another.

A place that quietly connected people.

That's what I hope Candy Kisses becomes.

Not just another directory.

Not just another website.

A modern newsroom for our community.

A place where professionals can publish their stories.

Where members can celebrate one another's successes.

Where Community Hubs share what's happening across Canada.

Where interviews preserve the strategies that work.

Where Founder Journals document the journey.

Where Community Growth Playbooks help others succeed.

Where announcements, events, opportunities, and ideas all have a home.

Most importantly...

A place where people feel welcome.

Today, we have the opportunity to build something of our own.

Out in the open.

With gratitude for how far we've come.

With appreciation for the people who quietly walked through those newsroom doors before us.

With respect for everyone who helped shape the path that brought us here.

And with a shared sense of pride in the community we're continuing to build together.

We're creating a place that says:

You're welcome here.

Tell your story.

Share what you've learned.

Celebrate your successes.

Support someone else's journey.

Help build the kind of community you'd be proud to belong to.

Maybe that's why I've always loved publishing.

Every blog post.

Every Community Spotlight.

Every interview.

Every Founder Journal.

Every announcement.

Every member story.

Every new voice joining the conversation.

They're all part of the next edition of our community.

The newsrooms knew.

Now it's our turn to publish.

And I have a feeling...

We're just getting started.
